SUMMARY:HECK EPIC REGISTRATION
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a free pint glass filled with Castle Danger beer\, at this Friday night registration meeting. \nThe Heck Epic is a two day stage race from Two Harbors\, MN. to Ely then back to Two Harbors. The route will be mainly gravel roads\, some of them as remote as I have ever seen in the state. Racers will leave Two Harbors\, MN on Saturday\, August 22. The first stage will cover approximately 110 miles of amazing Northwoods country to Ely\, MN. Riders will stop in Ely for the night and be required to camp using only the setup they have packed and carried with them. On Sunday\, August 23\, riders will head back to Two Harbors using another 110 mile route which will be equally beautiful and challenging. The fastest combined times of the two stages will mark the winner of the event. But all who participate will reap the rewards of back country travel. \nThe Heck Epic will be about self sufficiency. It will be about exploring new roads and trails by bike. The Heck Epic will be a challenge unlike any other in the country.

The event connects the Duluth area music\, craft beer\, and running communities. \nBradtoberFest memorializes Duluth musician Brad Rozman. It offers participants a unique opportunity to listen to live local music while sampling craft beer and navigating a path linking local breweries and pubs.\n“The idea is to give participants a sampling of some of the best aspects of life in the area\,” says Troy Rogers\, FOBMF president. “We’ve got an extraordinary music scene\, which Brad used to be a part of\, as well as exceptional craft beer. And we’ve become known for our active outdoor pursuits. We think it makes sense to celebrate these tremendous local assets.” \nParticipants can either run or walk the approximately 3-mile route that begins at Bent Paddle Brewing Company\, stops at a number of breweries and pubs\, and finally culminates at the Redstar Lounge (Fitger’s complex) for a finish line celebration featuring food\, music\, belly dancing and a craft beer-centric silent auction. \nEvents organized by the Friends of Brad include elements of humor and absurdity. DESCRIPTION:The Minnesota GIS/LIS is hosting its 25th Annual Conference & Workshops at the DECC in Duluth on October 7-9\, 2015.  The main fundraising event will be a Beer Tasting at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites.  The purpose of this event is to raise money for the Consortium Scholarship Fund.  This fund allows the Consortium to recognize and host a scholarship competition during the conference for several graduate\, undergraduate and community college students selected by their schools.  Over $4\,000 are awarded each year in scholarships based on students’ participation and excellence in project presentations.

As a second generation Finn who grew up on the Iron Range of northeastern Minnesota\, Patti was raised on folk music and homespun stylings\, playing flute and piccolo from a young age.  Patti found her passion for songwriting in 1978 when her parents gave her a guitar as a Christmas present.  Patti’s journey through life is chronicled in song.  She performs regularly on riverboats on the Mississippi River and at civic\, school and church events.  Patti is a wife\, mom of two sons\, and a Winona Area Public School special education teacher.
